教學目標是藉研究方法的介紹與研讀，報告的制作，充實學生在研究方法的認識和瞭解並培養學生獨立研究的能力。從假設的提出，主要變數的測量，資料的搜集、測試到解釋分析作實作的練習。並藉報告的寫作與檢討，交換研究的心得。主要內容為:(一)、研究方法的介紹與討論。(二)、輔導學生提出假設，研究大綱的提出，及資料的搜集和測試的能力。(三)、輔導學生從假設的提出，資料的搜集、測試、分析和解釋來培養學生獨立研究的能力。

The teaching goal is to enrich students' knowledge and understanding of research methods and cultivate students' independent research abilities through the introduction and study of research methods and the production of reports. Practical exercises from the formulation of hypotheses, measurement of main variables, collection and testing of data to interpretation and analysis. They also exchange research experiences through report writing and review. The main contents are: (1) Introduction and discussion of research methods. (2) Assist students in formulating hypotheses, formulating research outlines, and collecting and testing data. (3) Guide students to develop their independent research abilities from the formulation of hypotheses, collection, testing, analysis and interpretation of data.

針對政治學中主要的領域及其研究作廣泛介紹，除了對現階段政治理論作批判外，也介紹現階段的各種研究方法以及新的研究發展方向。本課程除了可以豐富學生的研究視野，也可以奠定研究的基礎。除了讓學生瞭解目前研究的主要潮流外，對於學生將來研究的定向，也具有指標性和引導性。
