《大智度論》漢譯共一百卷，論本的結構包含了《兩萬五千頌般若經》的經文與釋論，整部論乃經論會編的型式。其中內容涉及了佛教內、外部理論與相關議題，可說是包羅萬象，因此常被稱譽為佛教的百科全書。
　　此外，自中國佛教哲學發展的脈絡來看，自古至今許多學者在義理的論說與詮釋開展之過程中也常徵引《大智度論》的某些觀點，來作為說明或強化其觀點的文證。因此，論中豐富的議題不但可作為佛教哲學探究的題材，透過深究論中的義理，也可作為了解中國佛教哲學在此論譯出後之詮釋取向的來由。
本課程規劃為一學年的課程。獨立閱讀與詮釋原典之能力的培養更是本課程的重要目標，因此課程將引導學生們循序漸進地進行地毯式的閱讀《大智度論》，養成把握《大智度論》的哲學理論的能力。待同學們初步能把握《大智度論》之基礎哲學理論後，教師在本課程中將引導同學盡可能同時閱讀與分析當前學界與《大智度論》相關的研究成果，期能透過這樣的訓練養成同學們獨立閱讀與研究的能力。
　　綜合以上，本課程規劃每個課題的研討均包含初步的理解、深入的討論、引導學生獨立閱讀與詮釋相關的原典與文本以及閱讀分析學界的研究成果等幾個部份，希望藉由這樣的訓練，培養學生的批判思考與獨立研究能力。

The Chinese translation of "The Great Wisdom" consists of one hundred volumes. The structure of the treatise includes the scriptures and commentaries of the "Twenty-five Thousand Verses of the Prajna Sutra". The entire treatise is in the form of a sutra and treatise collection. The content involves internal and external Buddhist theories and related issues, which can be said to be all-inclusive, so it is often praised as an encyclopedia of Buddhism.
In addition, judging from the context of the development of Chinese Buddhist philosophy, many scholars from ancient times to the present often cite certain views in the "Great Wisdom" as documentary evidence to illustrate or strengthen their views in the process of discussing and interpreting principles. Therefore, the rich topics in the treatise can not only be used as subjects for Buddhist philosophical inquiry, but also as a basis for understanding the interpretation orientation of Chinese Buddhist philosophy after the treatise is translated.
This course is planned as a one-year course. The cultivation of the ability to independently read and interpret original scriptures is an important goal of this course. Therefore, the course will guide students to read "The Great Wisdom" step by step and develop the ability to grasp the philosophical theory of "The Great Wisdom". After the students have initially grasped the basic philosophical theories of "The Theory of Great Wisdom", the teacher will guide the students in this course to read and analyze the current academic research results related to "The Theory of Great Wisdom" at the same time as much as possible. It is hoped that through such training, students can develop their independent reading and research abilities.
Based on the above, the discussion of each topic planned in this course includes preliminary understanding, in-depth discussion, guiding students to independently read and interpret relevant original classics and texts, and research results in the field of reading analysis. It is hoped that through such training, students' critical thinking and independent research abilities will be cultivated.
