泰州之學是陽明學的分支，其源於王心齋，一傳為王一菴、王東崖、顏山農，再傳羅近溪。泰州學派的庶民性與實踐性特重。陽明學既因泰州學派而獲得廣泛傳播，也因之朝文學領域滲透。直至明末，泰州學者在思想、文學與文化各界，都具有相當的影響力。本課程將先討論陽明學的基本關懷與主要議題，並簡述陽明後學的發展。進而介紹泰州學人及思想，從中說明王心齋以降，如何消化並轉化陽明學，成為具有泰州風格的義理。另外，泰州學派在當時文化界與文學界所起的作用，以及後來研究者對於泰州學派的理解與衡定，亦是本課程所關心的主題。本課程的主要有三個學習目標：一是修習本課程後，能理解由陽明學到泰州之學的內外部轉變因由，進而對泰州學者的義理、重要論題與歷史演變，有基本的認識。並從此思索泰州之學的特質，及其在理學與陽明學發展中的定位。二是能具備獨立研讀相關文獻的能力，以此作為研究泰州眾人，陽明學乃至宋明理學的基礎。三是在掌握現有研究成果上，以泰州學派作為對象，發掘研究課題，並具有獨立完成論文寫作的能力。

Taizhou School is a branch of Yangming School. It originated from Wang Xinzhai and was first passed down to Wang Yi'an, Wang Dongya, Yan Shannong, and then to Luo Jinxi. Taizhou School’s emphasis on common people and practicality. Yangming Studies was not only widely disseminated by the Taizhou School, but also penetrated into the field of literature. Until the late Ming Dynasty, Taizhou scholars had considerable influence in all fields of thought, literature and culture. This course will first discuss the basic concerns and main issues of Yangming studies, and briefly describe the development of Yangming studies. Then it introduces Taizhou scholars and their thoughts, and explains how Wang Xinzhai and later digested and transformed Yangming Studies into Taizhou-style principles. In addition, the role of the Taizhou School in the cultural and literary circles at that time, as well as later researchers’ understanding and assessment of the Taizhou School, are also topics of concern in this course. This course has three main learning objectives: First, after studying this course, you can understand the internal and external reasons for the transformation from Yangming to Taizhou studies, and then have a basic understanding of the principles, important topics and historical evolution of Taizhou scholars. From then on, we will think about the characteristics of Taizhou Studies and its position in the development of Neo-Confucianism and Yangming Studies. The second is to have the ability to independently study relevant literature, which will serve as the basis for studying Taizhou people, Yangming studies and even Neo-Confucianism of the Song and Ming Dynasties. The third is to master the existing research results, use the Taizhou School as the object, explore research topics, and have the ability to independently complete thesis writing.
