本課程介紹西方古典音樂 (Western art music)的源頭：中古、文藝復興音樂。討論的課題包括當時音樂與基督教的關聯，主要的樂類 （genre），記譜法，及當時的社會、政治、文化背景。
本課程教科書為Burkholder/Grout/Palisca, A History of Western Music，包括本書附上的樂譜。幾個重要的電子資料庫(如Grove Music Online, Naxos) 將輔助教科書中的內容。課程補充教材可在新版數位教學平台找到。
This course introduces the origins of Western art music: medieval and literary rejuvenation music. The topics discussed include the relationship between music and Christianity at that time, the main music category (genre), the memorial method, and the social, political and cultural background at that time.
This course textbook is Burkholder/Grout/Palisca, A History of Western Music, including the music attached to this book. Several important electronic databases (such as Grove Music Online, Naxos) will assist in teaching and teaching. Course supplementary textbooks can be found on the new version of the digital teaching platform.
