1. Learn about the artistic development of China from the Song Dynasty to the Ming and Qing dynasties.
2. Discussion on the relationship between politics, economy, social development and artistic history during this period.
3. Basic ability to analyze works and painting styles.

本課程的主要目的在於訓練學生了解中國近代美術史裡的重要藝術家、作品以及相關的課題。除此之外，課程的討論也涉及藝術史理論中的分期(periodization)問題：到底中國的近代與現代分期的區分何在？不同的分期又如何對中國的近現代美術會有如何的影響？在此一觀照下，中國的近代美術史其實會呈現迥然不同的詮釋與意義。

The main purpose of this course is to train students to understand the important artists, works and related topics in the history of modern Chinese art. In addition, the discussion of the course also involves periodization in the theory of art historical theory: What is the division between modern and modern installment in China? How will different installments have an impact on China's modern aesthetics? Under this view, China's modern art history will actually present completely different interpretations and meanings.
