希望同學透過此課程增加對社會學想像與社會學分析的運用，透過對我國社會演進、典章制度的變化與當代社會研究做對比，進一步了解「人」與「資源」、「人」與「社會」、「人」與「制度」、以及「人」與「人」的關係並能加以用社會學的角度去分析、比較，以融會中西，貫通古今。是否想過， 次第的「次」是象形一個人說話有唾沫濺出口外的樣子，代表非良好行為的意思，告訴了我們社會中對禮儀的重視，以及社會階級概念的形成。是否想過，早在一千多年前的唐代的常平倉、宋代的居養院，就已經慢慢發展出相當完整的社會救濟制度，照顧社會中貧老、貧病、貧幼。是否想過每每在記取教訓後改革，但社會仍終于變亂？社會演進的過程中，什麼是不變的？什麼是循環的？什麼是一直在變的？從歷代社會演進出發，對照當今西方社會研究的主題，從古到今的比較，橫貫中西的比較。

It is hoped that students will increase their use of sociological imagination and sociological analysis through this course, and by comparing the evolution of my country's society, changes in regulations and systems with contemporary social research, they will further understand the relationship between "people" and "resources", "people" and "society", "people" and "systems", and "people" and "people", and be able to analyze and compare them from a sociological perspective, so as to integrate Chinese and Western, and connect ancient and modern times. Have you ever thought about it, the word "Ci" in "Ci Di" symbolizes a person spitting out his mouth when speaking, which means bad behavior. It tells us about the emphasis on etiquette in society and the formation of the concept of social class. Have you ever thought that as early as more than a thousand years ago, Changpingcang in the Tang Dynasty and nursing homes in the Song Dynasty had slowly developed a fairly complete social relief system to take care of the poor, old, sick, and young in society. Have you ever thought that every time you learn a lesson and reform, society still ends up in chaos? In the process of social evolution, what remains unchanged? What is cyclic? What is always changing? Starting from the social evolution of past dynasties, it compares the themes of current Western social research, comparisons from ancient times to the present, and comparisons across China and the West.
