一個完整的政治學門的訓練，應含括本體論、知識論與方法論三個面向，政治學方法論主要集中於後兩者，本課程為政治系國際關係組及政治理論組的必修課程，其重要性可見一般，學生經由此三學分的學期訓練之後，能對政治科學的演變，尤其從古典的實證學派到後實證學派，乃至於政治科學的未來展望，能有一個深度的認知，此課程也為同學將來報考國內研究所甚至出國深造奠定良好的基礎。

A complete training of a political school should include three aspects: intrinsic theory, knowledge theory and methodology. The political methodology discussion mainly focuses on the two. This course is a compulsory course for the international relations group and political theory group in the political department. Its importance can be seen in general. Students can learn from these three points. After the training period, we can have a deep understanding of the evolution of political science, especially from the classical proof school to the post-production school, and even the future prospects of political science. This course also lays a good foundation for students to apply for domestic research institutes and even go abroad to further their studies.

針對政治現象從問題的提出到問題的解答作有系統的介紹。以科學的方法，從概念的形成、假設的提出、通則的建立、模式的形成到理論的建構依序說明。並透過研究法的介紹使學生能瞭解、批判、並運用各種研究法來對特定的問題提出解決的方法。
