Plant Morphology
教育目標 Course Target
Plant Morphology is a field that involves understandings of the external forms, internal structure, development, and life cycles of vascular plants, both living and extinct, in different lineages of plant evolutionary history. By comparing the morphological and developmental features among living and fossil plants, the understandings of plant evolution and phylogeny are greatly enhanced.
The overall goals of this course are to develop for students an understanding of the defining characteristics of the different plant groups, and an appreciation of their phylogenetic relationships and the methods used to resolve them.
Specifically, each student will learn:
- to distinguish between major groups of vascular plants;
- to comprehend the reproductive cycles of the different types of land plants.
- to understand the phylogeny of different vascular plant lineages and to appreciate the history of the conquest of the terrestrial environment by plants.
- to communicate by using the specialized vocabulary of plant morphology and phylogeny;
- to identify questions relevant to the field of plat morphology and ways of addressing them;
- to communicate the results of research in writing.
