本課程（兩學期）講述西方哲學自古希臘經古羅馬至中世紀之發展與主要的各家思想。內容包括（一）先蘇時期的自然學﹔（二）辯士與蘇格拉底﹔（三）柏拉圖與亞里士多德﹔（四）希臘化時期的哲學﹔（五）基督宗教與教父哲學﹔（六）中世紀經院哲學。

Understand why you should study the history of philosophy and how to study Western philosophy, and understand the origin and development of important concepts in philosophy. ■ Course Contents
This course (two semesters) introduces the development of Western philosophy from ancient Greece through ancient Rome to the Middle Ages and the main thoughts of each school. The content includes (1) natural science in the pre-Soviet period; (2) the debaters and Socrates; (3) Plato and Aristotle; (4) philosophy in the Hellenistic period; (5) Christianity and patristic philosophy; (6) medieval scholasticism.

本課程之規劃上學期講述的範圍自古希臘經古羅馬至中世紀之發展與主要的各家思想。內容包括（一）先蘇時期的自然學﹔（二）辯士與蘇格拉底﹔（三）柏拉圖與亞里士多德﹔（四）希臘化時期的哲學﹔（五）基督宗教與教父哲學﹔（六）中世紀經院哲學。
下學期主要講授自文藝復興以降至十九世紀的西方近代哲學史之主要思潮與哲學家思想，內容包括（一）文藝復興與近代自然哲學、（二）理性主義、（三）經驗主義、（四）啟蒙運動與近代政治哲學、（五）康德、（六）德國觀念論、（七）德國浪漫主義與民族主義思想，俾使學生對近代西方哲學中有關知識論、形上學、倫理學、政治與社會哲學等思想有一宏觀視野，熟悉西方哲學史之發展脈絡與基本知識，並且有利於銜接對當代西方哲學的學習。

The planning of this course last semester covered the development and main thoughts of various schools from ancient Greece through ancient Rome to the Middle Ages. The content includes (1) natural science in the pre-Soviet period; (2) the debaters and Socrates; (3) Plato and Aristotle; (4) philosophy in the Hellenistic period; (5) Christianity and patristic philosophy; (6) medieval scholasticism.
The next semester will focus on the main ideological trends and philosophers’ thoughts in the history of modern Western philosophy from the Renaissance to the 19th century. The content includes (1) Renaissance and modern natural philosophy, (2) rationalism, (3) empiricism, (4) Enlightenment and modern political philosophy, (5) Kant, (6) Germany Theory of Concepts, (7) German Romanticism and Nationalist Thoughts, so that students can have a macroscopic view of the theories of knowledge, metaphysics, ethics, political and social philosophy in modern Western philosophy, and be familiar with the development context and basic knowledge of the history of Western philosophy, and it will also help students connect with the study of contemporary Western philosophy.
