3. 了解古希臘各地的特殊人文風貌。本課程閱讀古希臘文唯一留傳下來的旅行文學，西元二世紀保塞尼亞 (Pausanias)所寫的《描述希臘》，目的是了解古希臘的地理，以及各地的人文與歷史背景。藉由對古希臘地理的了解，我們將能把歷史上的事件，放入它們的情境當中，把討論的事物在時空中定位。
保塞尼亞生於現在的土耳其，當時在羅馬帝國的管轄之下。他熱愛希臘，遊遍希臘南部，以古希臘文寫下鉅細靡遺的筆記。據他所說，當時至少有十九位旅行家，但是只有保塞尼亞的筆記留傳下來。
除了地理知識，保塞尼亞往往帶入當地的歷史、當時的生活、儀式祭典、居民的信仰、傳說與民俗，因此提供了區域常久以來發展的情況，實為文化地理的書寫。藉由這個課程，同學應能熟悉希臘的地理，以及當時各地的歷史與人文風貌。

2. Understand the development process of various places in ancient Greece.
3. Understand the special humanistic features of various places in ancient Greece. This course reads the only travel literature that has been handed down from ancient Greek, "Description of Greece" written by Pausanias in the second century AD. The purpose is to understand the geography of ancient Greece, as well as the humanities and historical backgrounds of various places. By understanding the geography of ancient Greece, we will be able to put historical events into their context and locate the things discussed in time and space.
Pausenia was born in what is now Türkiye, which was under the jurisdiction of the Roman Empire. He loved Greece, traveled throughout southern Greece, and wrote meticulous notes in ancient Greek. According to him, there were at least nineteen travelers at the time, but only Pausenia's notes have survived.
In addition to geographical knowledge, Pausenia often brings in local history, life at that time, rituals and ceremonies, residents' beliefs, legends and folk customs, thus providing the long-term development of the region, which is actually the writing of cultural geography. Through this course, students should be familiar with the geography of Greece, as well as the history and humanities of various places at that time.
