The objective of this course is to build up advanced reading ability by use of the following reading strategies: recognizing main ideas vs. minor details, summarizing, outlining, examining organizational patterns, making inferences, synthesizing information etc. Students will become better readers through reading intensively (following specific reading strategies and skills) and reading extensively (large amounts of authentic materials). For the intensive reading aspect, students will follow a syllabus and critically read assigned articles from the textbook for in-class discussion and other relevant assignments.
