Course Target

Around the 21st century, Asia's economy flourished and rapidly grew, and China and India rose to become a huge global economy; the characteristics of Asian culture are also rapidly red, and the "urbanity" evolution of the Asian maritime areas and the changes in the hinterland of the town it has led have become a circle that cannot be ignored in the history of world civilization. They mix complex human species, special history and culture, unique geographical conditions, and modernization processes. Architectural professionals must participate in the new wave of rising Asia, so they must understand and build Asian urban views. The subjects of this course are all about the dragon cities in their respective countries, global economic and financial culture and consumption trends, focusing on the analysis and discussion of urban architecture (the architecture of the city), urban morphology (Typo-morphology), and metropolitan research. This course focuses on Asian Chinese cities - Hong Kong, Shanghai and Taipei, Beijing, Tokyo and Hancheng in Northeast Asia, Bangkok in Southeast Asia, Singapore and Bangkok in South Asia. They are important cities in the Mediterranean Sea to the Indian Ocean. They have changed the history of the internal dramas of the European power and Asia since the 16th century, and also play a special role in world history (specifically modern history). This course also plans a more comprehensive case study outside Asia (such as New York), hoping to gain a deeper understanding of Asian cities through comparisons, and also join the observation of Shenzhen and Dubai, a fast-rise newcomers after the 20th century. Therefore, it is expected to provide a broader Asian vision (not more sophisticated and in-depth for individual cities), and to conduct a process in the classroom and think about the characteristics of Asian cities and their contemporary roles with classmates. This course will focus on class lectures and students' reports, and use the above four Chinese cities as the target. From the 19th century to the current development process, we will conduct sub-segment discussions and report on stage/selected areas.
