陳映真是一個思想型的創作者。他的創作生涯從1959年開始，至今已跨越半個世紀。他的作品以深刻的思想作底，試圖透過文學來直面這個時代及其重要問題，但又經常超越了特定的時代與地域的限制，而揭示了更深刻的、跨越地域與時代的意義。陳映真的小說創作不是「文學為了文學」所能窮盡其意義的，因為它糾結著歷史、社會與思想。閱讀陳映真創作，對開在社會學系的本課程而言，至少有一個企圖：透過小說家所提供的視角，對戰後台灣以及區域的歷史、社會與思想，展開一種具有新的敏銳度的探索。

Chen Ying is a thought-based creator. His creative career began in 1959 and has been crossing half a century. His works are based on profound thoughts, trying to confront this era and its important problems through literature, but often transcend specific eras and regions and reveal deeper meanings that transcend regions and eras. Chen Yingzhen's novel creation is not something that "literary studies for literature" can do as much as possible, because it combines history, society and thoughts. Reading Chen Yingzhen's creations, for this course in the Department of Social Sciences, there is at least one idea: through the perspective provided by novelists, we will explore a new and sensitive exploration of the history, society and thoughts of the later Taiwan and the region.
