雲端計算(Cloud Computing)與大資料(Big Data)是目前資訊科技領域相當受到重視的新興分支。承接分散式計算、公共計算、網格計算等大規模計算環境的發展，雲端運算的環境可以分為公有雲、私有雲、混合雲等三大類型，在服務上面有底層的IaaS、中間層的PaaS與上層的SaaS三種服務模式。另外，面對每天不斷產生、具有3V(速度velocity、巨量volume、多樣性variety)特性的超大數據，如何處理是非重關鍵的。本課程一方面透過課堂講解，讓同學們了解雲端計算各個層面，也有實作課程，透過Apache Hadoop平台學習Map Reduce平行運算架構，另外也會透過邀請校外專家學者進行專題演講的方式，從各個面向了解雲端計算的本質、技術與商業模式。Cloud Computing and Big Data are emerging branches that are currently receiving considerable attention in the field of information technology.
