Course Target

Worldview is a fundamental and comprehensive idea of the world. As far as a person’s worldview determines his or her life including thoughts, action and lifestyle, everyone’s life is explicitly or implicitly showing a kind of worldview. We live in an age that there are many radical and grave conflicts of worldviews and their entailed actions. Are all worldviews reasonable and acceptable? Obviously no. It is a fact that many human and environmental disasters are the results of some worldviews. Thus we have to ask which worldview is reasonable and acceptable, and further try to form a good lifestyle. Indeed, to examine one’s worldview is to examine his or her life, and Socrates saying is right: “an unexamined life is not worth living.” Accordingly, the aim of this course is trying to found the warranted reasons of a worldview through critical discussions and dialogue, and help every student to find the meaning of life.A worldview is a basic and unified concept about the world. Everyone's life shows a certain world view implicitly or explicitly, and his world view fundamentally determines his thoughts, behaviors and lifestyle. In fact, people have multiple worldviews, and therefore have multiple behaviors and lifestyles. In this sense, reflecting on a person's behavior and life must reflect on the worldview he holds. Examining a person's worldview is examining his life, and as Socrates said, "An unexamined life is not worth living." The contemporary era is an era of coexistence and fierce conflict between worldviews, forcing us to face and tolerate different worlds and life forms. But is every worldview reasonable and acceptable? This is clearly not the case, as many current human and environmental disasters are caused by a particular worldview. Therefore, unless we should accept and tolerate all behaviors and life forms, or we simply do not believe that there are irrefutable truths about the world and life, we should test and reflect on the rationality of different worldviews, and then point out what human beings should The world view and lifestyle we hold, and more importantly, reveal the meaning of human life accordingly.
