As a necessary discipline course for majors, for students who have taken the "Urban Planning" class in the first semester of fourth grade, this course is to further understand how the country's infrastructure allocation and policies affect the deployment of capital in urban space. Lead the course students to understand how urban space forms are required, the power and social and cultural significance conveyed behind spatial aesthetic forms, and to understand what role professionals can play in the improvement of urban space. For students who have never studied urban planning, this course helps students understand the "urban design" profession and guides students to develop a sensitivity to urban spatial forms.
As a necessary discipline course for majors, this course follows the "Urban Planning" course in the first semester of the fourth grade. It will further lead students to understand the city and understand what role professionals can play in improving urban space. The course first reviews some of the conceptual forerunners in the field of modern urban space design/planning, as well as the specific practical experience of urban space design to understand the profession of "urban design"; that is, it combines the urban design schools we have heard of in the past and the ones they created. The spatial form is put back into the time and space where it was produced and the urban situation it faced, helping students understand "Why did the profession of 'urban design' come into being?" and "Why is it designed?" Secondly, this course will simulate the development and changes of cities through various control tools provided by urban planning and architectural technical regulations (by-laws); that is, to become familiar with "How can cities be designed?" While conducting the aforementioned historical review, through the practical operation of the semester report, the cities and regions of the four metropolitan areas of Taipei, New Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung after the five-city election were taken as the objects of concern, allowing students to compare the upper and lower two What I learned during the semester was summarized in the urban space review report at the end of March. Therefore, this course will approach the urban design major through three main lines: 1. Understanding urban design through the time and space in which urban design discourse develops • What historical or social factors gave rise to urban design discourse in different eras? • What urban problems do different urban design discourses intend to solve? • How does discourse practice itself? Through whom? Through what policy? What is the socio-economic soil that can be relied upon in the process of discussing practice? • The distortion of the process of discussing practice and the selective closeness of design to power/interests • The formation of a new urban agenda and paradigm shift in the context of globalization 2. Interpretation of physical space/establishment of a sense of scale To master the operating tools of urban design • Control of development units/building lines and street outline scales • Preservation of historical blocks and renewal of missing areas • Intervention in urban reform in the form of space 3. Physical examination/understanding of current urban space design from the perspective of sustainability
