Graduate students in this course will:
1. become familiar with theoretical and pedagogical issues in ESL/EFL writing
2. compare and analyze different approaches to teaching writing
3. learn various instructional techniques derived from writing research
4. learn to design and implement research projects on writing
5 gain insights into L2 writing processes in order to become better writers and writing teachers

課程概述 Course Description
This MA course provides an overview perspective on second language writing instruction. Students will examine the development of second language writing theories and discuss the translation of these writing theories into instructional practices. Class discussions are conducted to explore the most important theoretical and pedagogical issues that confront writing teachers: L1 and L2 relationships, writing process, process approach, reading-writing connections, teacher response, peer response, error correction, writing assessment and etc. Students will compare and analyze different kinds of writing research and approaches to teaching EFL/ L2 writing in order to design their own research project on writing and plan writing lessons for EFL students in Taiwan.

30 | Preparation for assigned reading and participation in class discussion are expected of all students. Participation also includes written assignments. |

10 | Students are responsible for giving a 30-minute oral presentation on a selected article. The Review should include important points of the article and questions for discussion. |

Tutoring Tutoring |
20 | Students are required to complete six hours of writing tutorials and keep a teacher’s journal. More details will be provided in class. |
