Taught in English
An Introduction to Reflexive Sociology:From
Course Target
1. About this course
On the one hand, it may be too early to introduce the concept of reflexive sociology to freshmen in the sociology department; but on the other hand, it is not too late to first understand themselves at the initial stage of sociological knowledge development. I hope that through this course, I can lead teachers and students to learn together, and hope that through the discussion process of mutual excitement and debate, I can personally experience the charm of sociology, and at the same time trigger myself to reflect on the fundamental proposition of what sociology is.
What is sociology? What is the study of sociology? C. Wright Mills (1959) proposed "sociological imagination" to indicate that "sociological imagination is the process and effort of each person to relate his or her personal situation to public issues." No matter what kind of imagination is based on the argument, it cannot exist in isolation from society, because they are closely related to social sites. Bourdieu also grasped the concept of field, supplemented by the social, political and cultural aspects of capital, to clearly outline the multi-directional and political nature of social relations. The Canadian female sociologist Dorothy. Smith (1987) created it in the book "Problematizing the Ordinary World: A Feminist Sociology" as not only a "sociology for women" (A sociology for women), but also known as "A sociology for ordinary people" (A sociology for women). People)'s institutional ethnography aims to reveal the power operation process behind texts, discourses, or ideologies. The core of the research is to allow individuals living in ordinary society and daily life to re-understand the politics around society, conduct reflexive self-examination from the perspective of participants, and then propose critical analysis and interpretation. If there is spare capacity, the researcher will become an activist role as an advocate.
