這是一門大學部三年級的必修課，也是大三這一年的重頭戲，主要的目的在於訓練社會學系的學生進行社會學研究的方法。因此「社會研究方法」在引導你如何使用研究方法，熟悉作為一位社會學學生必須掌握的研究之道。這門課將介紹社會研究方法的基本概念與過程，具體內容包含量化與質化的研究方法，使得學生對社會學的經驗研究有一定程度的了解；上學期的課程將以基本概念與量化方法為主，下學期將進入質化研究方法。希望經過這一學年的訓練，你可以瞭解量化與質化研究的優缺點，欣賞不同研究取徑的優美之處。
社會研究必須透過嚴謹的社會研究方法逐步形成，透過嚴謹研究方法得到的研究結論才具有價值與意義，因此社會研究方法在社會學的訓練中具有重要性。然而，這並不意味走出社會學大門，「社會研究法」就與你無關，因為舉凡任何需要系統性瞭解社會現象時，「社會研究方法」都不會讓你失望，它可能成為你未來就業時的一種謀生工具。
這門課程以老師講授課程為主、討論為輔，但我相當期待你們在課堂上的熱烈參與能夠激起我們彼此熱絡討論的火花。同時，本課程要求你們必須經由實際的操作學習運用研究方法，透過分組合作的一個小型研究計畫的實習，提供大家一個進行社會學實證性研究的機會。實習課程的安排將透過TA制度來完成，他們將與老師共同帶領大家領略社會學研究的奧妙。

This is a required course for the third year of undergraduate studies and the highlight of the junior year. Its main purpose is to train sociology students in sociological research methods. Therefore, "Social Research Methods" guides you on how to use research methods and become familiar with the research methods that a sociology student must master. This course will introduce the basic concepts and processes of social research methods. The specific content includes quantitative and qualitative research methods, allowing students to have a certain understanding of empirical research in sociology. The course in the first semester will focus on basic concepts and quantitative methods, and the next semester will enter qualitative research methods. I hope that after this academic year’s training, you can understand the advantages and disadvantages of quantitative and qualitative research, and appreciate the beauty of different research approaches.
Social research must be gradually formed through rigorous social research methods. Only research conclusions obtained through rigorous research methods have value and significance. Therefore, social research methods are important in sociology training. However, this does not mean that after stepping out of sociology, "social research methods" will have nothing to do with you, because whenever you need to systematically understand social phenomena, "social research methods" will not let you down. It may become a tool for making a living in your future employment.
This course is mainly lectured by the teacher and supplemented by discussions, but I very much hope that your enthusiastic participation in the class will spark sparks of lively discussion between us. At the same time, this course requires you to learn and apply research methods through practical operations. Through the internship of a small research project in group cooperation, it provides you with an opportunity to conduct empirical research in sociology. The arrangement of internship courses will be completed through the TA system, and they will work with teachers to lead everyone to appreciate the mystery of sociological research.
