六朝雖然是中國歷史上戰禍頻仍、天災不斷、人間失序、世道艱難、價值觀快速變動的亂世，卻也是文學、思想、宗教、藝術、史學各領域迅速發展的黃金時期。在中國筆記小說的發展長河裡，六朝小說實居發軔開端的地位，當時無論志人或志怪體小說均有佳作，而且相似之作不斷在同時或此後一再湧現，更證明了其小說體例與形態已然於六朝成型。
若進一步就六朝志怪小說的發展來看，晉代干寶所撰之《搜神記》實為六朝志怪小說經典之作，本書保存了魏晉以前中國歷來關於神仙、鬼魅、精怪、數術、災異感應等許多史書不及載的「怪異非常」之事，不僅內容豐富、議題多元，其開創性與藝術成就，堪稱魏晉志怪之冠，從神奇怪異之事的書寫反映了魏晉時代特殊的社會背景與世態人心。
本課程希望藉由對《搜神記》小說文本的精讀分析，引領同學探討小說中關於文學藝術、神話思維、生死時空、哲學思想、異類互動、…等諸多議題，一方面訓練學生閱讀與鑑賞小說的能力，一方面讓學生對於《搜神記》中之豐富意涵與世態人心有著多元而深厚的理解。

Although the Six Dynasties were a troubled period in Chinese history characterized by frequent wars, natural disasters, human disorder, difficult times, and rapid changes in values, it was also a golden period of rapid development in the fields of literature, thought, religion, art, and history. In the long history of the development of Chinese notebook novels, the Six Dynasties novels are truly at the beginning. At that time, there were excellent works in both the novels about people and about monsters, and similar works continued to appear at the same time or later, which further proves that the style and form of the novels were already formed in the Six Dynasties.
If we further look at the development of the novels about monsters in the Six Dynasties, "Sou Shen Ji" written by Qian Bao in the Jin Dynasty is actually a classic of the novels about monsters in the Six Dynasties. This book preserves many historical stories about gods, ghosts, spirits, numerology, disaster induction, etc. in China before the Wei and Jin Dynasties. The "weird and extraordinary" things that have not been recorded in history books are not only rich in content and diverse topics, but also their pioneering and artistic achievements, which can be regarded as the highest among weird things in the Wei and Jin Dynasties. The writing of magical and weird things reflects the special social background and world mentality of the Wei and Jin Dynasties.
This course hopes to lead students to explore many issues in the novel about literature and art, mythological thinking, life and death, time and space, philosophical thoughts, heterogeneous interactions, etc., through intensive reading and analysis of the text of the novel "Sou Shen Ji". On the one hand, it will train students' ability to read and appreciate novels, and on the other hand, it will allow students to have a diverse and profound understanding of the rich meanings in "Sou Shen Ji" and the state of the world and people's hearts.
