本課藉由晚近國際學界知名學者的經典著作，以試圖探討改革開放後巨大變遷中的中國社會型態與常民生活，另有二週討論回歸後的香港問題。含括的議題包括：國家權力的形貌、工人階級的轉變、跨國生產鏈的形成、消費主義的興起、感官娛樂的擴展、道德秩序的變遷、個人主義與社會抵抗的衝突、生物科技的社會意義。This course uses recent classic works by well-known international academic scholars to try to explore the Chinese social pattern and ordinary people's lives that have undergone tremendous changes after the reform and opening up. There are also two weeks to discuss the Hong Kong issue after the handover. Covered topics include: the shape of state power, the transformation of the working class, the formation of transnational production chains, the rise of consumerism, the expansion of sensory entertainment, changes in the moral order, the conflict between individualism and social resistance, and the society of biotechnology meaning.
