Animal rights are an important topic in contemporary life ethics. Its basic viewpoint is to think about human-centeredness. From the perspective of the animal's own rights, it is important that animals should not be property or tool attached to humans, but should equate their status with humans, and enjoy basic rights without suffering and hardship like humans. The purpose of this course is to guide students to think about the problem of animal rights from different perspectives in East and Western philosophy. In the Western philosophy part, we will first introduce the excitement and development of the concept of animal rights in the West, and then we will explore in-depth questions about animal rights and their life ethics, such as "What is an animal?", "What is an animal's moral status?", "Equality rights and the rights of animals", "Valuity and slaughter", "Cultivation and breeding animal--the dispute over eating and eating vegetarianism", "Scientific research and animal" and other issues. In the Oriental Philosophy, this course will first start with the "world view" of Buddhism, guiding students to reflect on the existence status of humans and animals, and further reflect on the subject of objects and animal ethics. Furthermore, the concept of deep-level ecological learning in Buddhism is the main axis, and the concept of "no harm" is to examine ecological balance, animal experiments and animal release issues. Finally, the land-based discussion on the moral status of animals, the view of animal rights, and the decisions of vegetables or meat. We hope to use the discussion on animal rights discussions by the Western philosophy of the topic of animal rights to guide students to develop the ability and cultivation of critical reflection from contemporary philosophy issues.
