《紅樓夢》是以近現代白話文寫成的章回小說，其內容集中國傳統文化之大成，代表了中國小說的發展高峰。《紅樓夢》吸納傳統中國文學與文化的涵蓋面甚廣，本學期將從《紅樓夢》專題出發，帶領同學從不同角度來觀察中國的文學傳統與創造，並練習相關的主題寫作。《紅樓夢》內容思想涵蓋中國哲學傳統：儒、 釋、道三家，精深博大，本課亦試圖將《紅樓夢》置於中國思想傳統中，檢視其文化意義及人生觀照。
"A Dream of Red Mansions" is a chapter novel written in modern vernacular. Its content embodies the culmination of traditional Chinese culture and represents the peak of the development of Chinese novels. "A Dream of Red Mansions" absorbs a wide range of traditional Chinese literature and culture. This semester will start from the topic of "A Dream of Red Mansions", leading students to observe Chinese literary traditions and creations from different angles, and practice writing on related themes. The content and thought of "Dream of Red Mansions" covers the Chinese philosophical tradition: Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, which is profound and profound. This course also attempts to place "Dream of Red Mansions" in the Chinese ideological tradition to examine its cultural significance and life insights.
