《紅樓夢》是中國古典長篇小說的經典之作，是一部值得驕傲的文學遺產；同時，它已被翻譯成十幾種外國語文，因此也是世界文學的遺產之一。在中國近百年來有超過三百以上的詩人作家學者對它做過評論或深入的研究，因而在半個世紀以前已發展成一門學問─「紅學」。１９８０年６月更首次由美國威斯康辛大學召開「國際紅樓夢研討會」，聚集了歐美及海峽兩岸三地的學者做廣泛的交流研討。從此，每兩年就有一次國際大型的研討會在大陸不同地點舉行。再者，《紅樓夢》作者曹雪芹的身世特殊，做為滿州「包衣」，曾有顯赫的家世，而又遭逢抄家之禍，更引發「曹學」的研究。因此，環繞著《紅樓夢》文本中「大觀園」的內外世界也普遍引起知識界的文化論述。就文學與思想的視角，它文字哀怨優美，對人生有哲理的省識，是一部愛情悲劇與世族興衰的經典巨著，可以做為文學賞析的最佳材料。歷年來，有關專著與論文已成百上千，更是做為中文系學生所不可忽視者。開這一門課的目的與重點，就是為了啟發學生拓展從「點」到「面」的視野。"Red House Dream" is a classic work of Chinese classical novels and is a literary profession that deserves pride. At the same time, it has been translated into more than a dozen foreign languages, so it is also one of the world's literature professions. In the past century, more than 300 poetic writers and scholars have commented on it or studied it in depth, so it has developed into a learning question half a century ago - "red learning". In June 1980, the "International Red Building Dreams Conference" was held by the University of Wisconsin in the United States for the first time, gathering students from Europe, the United States and the United States to conduct extensive exchanges and discussions. From then on, a large international seminar will be held every two years at different locations in the mainland. Furthermore, Cao Xueqin, the author of "Red House Dream", has a special life experience. As a "coat" in Manzhou, he once had a distinctive family background, but was also confiscated, which led to the research of "Cao Xue". Therefore, the internal and external worlds of "Grand Garden" written in the text "Red House Dream" also generally aroused cultural arguments in the intellectual world. From the perspective of literature and thought, its words are grieving, beautiful, and philosophical about life. It is a classic masterpiece of love and tragedy and the decline of aristocratic races. It can be used as the best material for literary analysis. Over the years, there have been hundreds of articles and discussions, and they are even more important to Chinese students. The purpose and focus of this course is to create students' vision from "point" to "face".
