本課程除探討近代以來海外華族移民社會的形成與發展，也將著重海外華足與母國之間政、經、社方面的緊密關係與文化上的延續，輔以居留地之政經社會的變遷，探討華族與居留地社會在不同時空中的互動模式，引導學生以小見大，更深入理解與思考人類歷史。
透過本課程之學習，將不僅以知識傳遞為限，期能培養本校學生具有聆聽、表達及溝通能力，分析、推理及整合能力，欣賞多元文化能力，尊重生命與關懷環境的態度，具備國際視野能力，更能融通「求真、篤信、力行」之東海精神。

In addition to exploring the formation and development of overseas Chinese immigrant societies in modern times, this course will also focus on the close political, economic, and social relations and cultural continuation between overseas Chinese football and their home countries. Supplemented by the political, economic and social changes in the settlement areas, this course will explore the interaction patterns between the Chinese and the settlement societies in different time and space, and guide students to see the big things from the small, and to have a deeper understanding and reflection on human history.
Through the study of this course, we will not only transfer knowledge, but also develop our students' listening, expression and communication skills, analysis, reasoning and integration skills, the ability to appreciate multiculturalism, the attitude of respecting life and caring for the environment, the ability to have an international perspective, and the ability to integrate the Donghai spirit of "seeking truth, believing deeply, and practicing hard".
