本課程著重於奠定文化領域課程所需之基本知識，於學期前半會將媒體：諸如映像、文字等與視聽者的關連，探討其表象之符號性、政治性、文化意義，也會論及性別學、歷史、異文化交流等議題。學期後半會論及日本文化、歷史、哲學、思想等。

This course focuses on laying down the basic knowledge required for courses in the cultural field. In the first half of the semester, it will explore the relationship between media, such as images and text, and audiovisuals, and explore the symbolic, political, and cultural significance of their representations. It will also discuss issues such as gender, history, and cross-cultural exchanges. In the second half of the semester, Japanese culture, history, philosophy, thought, etc. will be discussed.

本課程與《語言溝通概論》《社會文化概論》並列，為本系必修基礎課程之一。這門課程主要目的在為學生建構文化研究相關基礎知識及基本概念，以培養學生對文化研究的理解，並提供學生一個機會去發現自己的興趣，進而具備選擇專門領域的判斷能力。

This course, along with "Introduction to Language Communication" and "Introduction to Social Culture", is one of the required basic courses in this department. The main purpose of this course is to construct basic knowledge and basic concepts related to cultural studies for students, so as to cultivate students' understanding of cultural studies, and provide students with an opportunity to discover their own interests, so as to have the judgment ability to choose a specialized field.
