本課程為本系「資訊安全管理與應用」學程的基礎課程之一，也是大學部三、四年級與碩士班一年級之選修課程，本課程所包括的範圍有實體安全、使用者辨識、存取控制、密碼學、管理控制、以及法律制裁等六大主題。
有鑑於資訊安全的重要性，介紹與資訊安全相關的議題，除了由老師授課之外，亦會邀請資安相關的業界人士舉辦演講，不僅讓學生對資訊安全有基本的認識，也可讓學生了解現階段業界對於資安領域的重視程度與實際的做法。修完此課程之後，除了對資訊安全有的整體的觀念，也有助於後續各項資安課程的學習，以及取得資安學程證書。
