At present, research related to biodiversity is receiving more and more attention in China, and a certain number of research investigations have been carried out regardless of the taxonomic group. However, biodiversity data are different in nature from other life science fields and cannot be analyzed by commonly used statistical methods. Without proper understanding and training, traditional statistical methods are used to process biodiversity data. Either the data structure will be too complex to be effectively analyzed, or the data itself will be over-compressed and a lot of important information will be lost. The purpose of this course is to enable students to understand the characteristics of biodiversity data, how to organize and select data; various univariate and multivariate analysis methods; and how to explore the interactive relationships between biodiversity, environmental organisms and abiotic factors. It is hoped that the depth and breadth of biodiversity research can be enhanced through the training in this course.
