This is a computer-based laboratory course intended for graduate students who are interested in obtaining hand-on experiences with bioinformatical analyses using currently available tools. Although some theories of bioinformatics will be brushed upon, the focus of this course will be on applying bioinformatical tools from a user-oriented perspective. Public accessible internet resources will be introduced and students will perform basic searches using examples provided by the instructor. There will be pre-laboratory assignment to help student master search skills introduced in each study unit. Each Student is required to propose a simple bioinformatical project by applying tools introduced in this course (and beyond) to a subject of their choices (could be proteins, genes, structures, or even literature analysis). At the end of the course students will be evaluated base on their in-class discussion, laboratory performance, and their oral presentation and project reports. This is a computer-based laboratory course intended for graduate students who are interested in obtaining hand-on experiences with bioinformatical analyzes using currently available tools.
