Pronunciation and Listening
教育目標 Course Target
By the end of the course, students will demonstrate improvements in their pronunciation of American English. They will show increased awareness of the differences between accurate and less than accurate pronunciations, in terms of word and sentence stress, intonation, consonants and vowels. They will also be able to pronounce consonants and vowels of English sounds which are particularly troublesome for Chinese learners with increased accuracy.

課程概述 Course Description
This course intends to improve Chinese EFL students pronunciation and listening comprehension of American English. The emphases of the course are on the sounds that are central to intelligibility and sounds that are challenging for most speakers of Chinese. The course leads students to discover, recognize, pronounce and comprehend American English word stress, sentence stress, intonation patterns, and high-frequency vowels and consonants with increased accuracy. It offers extensive listening and speaking practice so that students can carry key pronunciation patterns over to listening and speaking American English in different contests. The learning activities such as guided conversations, pair and small group practices, information gap activities, peer interviews, and short oral reports will invite students to enjoy improving their command of accurate pronunciation and comprehension in spoken American English.
