he course consists of a brief introduction to the elements of fiction and drama and a close reading of the selected material. The chosen material will be suitable for non-English majors and stimulate topics for discussions. Before the midterm, we will read three short stories; after midterms, one Greek tragedy and one modern play.
The teaching approach for the Greek play is mostly based on Aristotle’s concept in his Poetics. We will analyze the pyramid structure of both plays and show the concept of a tragic hero. This course includes lectures and group discussions. At the end of the semester, time permitting, students will perform short scenes on stage.
