This course offers an introduction to the music in the Classic and early Romantic periods. We will study major forms, genres, and styles of the music in these periods in relation to its cultural context, including major political, religious, and artistic trends. Weekly assignments listed in this syllabus refer to both the excerpts from various chapters in our textbook (reading assignment) and the music examples in these chapters (listening assignment). We will use catalogues and digital archives such as Grove Music Online, Music Index, and Naxos to complement our textbook.

本課程的教學目標如下1.建立完整而清晰的「音樂史」觀念。2.建立西方音樂史的「貫時性」與「共時性」認知。3.瞭解西方音樂在古典時期的風格特色與發展。4.培養學生對於西方古典時期音樂作品與風格之理解、分析能力。5.培養學生建立起西方音樂之歷史理論基礎。
二、評分標準(以百分評量方式計算):
平時成績40%(不定期隨堂測驗、課程參與)
期中考試30%(考試題型:選擇題、申論題、聽音、總譜辨識等)
期末考試30%(考試題型同期中考試)
The teaching objectives of this course are as follows: 1. Establish a complete and clear concept of "music history". 2. Establish the understanding of "synchronicity" and "synchronicity" in the history of Western music. 3. Understand the style, characteristics and development of Western music in the classical period. 4. Cultivate students’ understanding and analysis ability of musical works and styles of the Western classical period. 5. Cultivate students to establish the historical and theoretical foundation of Western music.
2. Scoring criteria (calculated as a percentage):
Normal score is 40% (irregular in-class tests, course participation)
30% of the mid-term exam (exam question types: multiple choice questions, essay questions, listening, score identification, etc.)
30% of the final exam (exam questions will be taken in the mid-term exam at the same time)
