就目前所留傳下來的書信、文件及史料來看,韋伯對於方法論的知識興趣以及知識定位,皆非優先首位。根據韋伯母親的回憶,韋伯從孩提時候就對歷史以及系譜學深感興趣。及長至青年時期,也只能從其書信中探知,青年韋伯對於歷史以及政治的興趣。在韋伯的大學期間,他修習法理學、國民經濟學、歷史學、哲學,但沒有發現任何一篇關於方法論的學期報告留傳下來。大學期間,與方法論學習有關的唯一蛛絲馬跡是 1883 年 2 月 23 日寫給父親的家書中提及,他修習了由歷史學者 Bernhard Erdmannsdörffer(1833-1901)所開授的討論課收穫頗豐,
「主要關注於歷史方法的領域」。但是書信中並未透露具體的上課內容。
考察韋伯的 作史,可以看到韋伯知識興趣始終關注具體的經 事實。並將方法學視為「副業」,方法的存在只是做為工具,為了達成知識探究的目標。一如我在課程綱要卷首所引的片段,「正如我們完全不認為應該將歷史生活的豐富硬塞進一些公式裡去一樣。我們也確信:唯有清晰明確的概念,才能為一種想要建立種種社會性文化現象之特有意義的研究鋪平道路」。韋伯夫人 Marianne 也這麼地評斷韋伯:「韋伯並不關心對他的思想進行系統闡述,因為他無意成為一個專業的邏輯學家。儘管他對方法論的洞見力評價甚高,但並不是為了方法本身去進行評價,而是在闡明感知具體問題的可能性時把它們做為一個不可或缺的工具。」方法以及理論都只是為了經 事實而服務,這幾乎是韋伯學圈的共識看法。

Based on Aunt Veer's memory, Veer has been deeply interested in history and departmental studies since childhood. When he reached his youth, he could only explore the young Wei Bo's interest in history and politics from his letters. During Veber's college years, he studied jurisprudence, national economy, history, and philosophy, but he did not find any academic report on methodology to be passed down. During university, the only spider horse related to methodological study was mentioned in a book written to his father on February 23, 1883, that he had studied the discussion courses taught by historian Bernhard Erdmannsdörffer (1833-1901),
"Mainly focus on the field of historical methods." However, the letter did not disclose the specific content of the previous class.
By examining Weibo's history, we can see that Weibo's knowledge and interests have always focused on specific facts. Methodology is also regarded as a "sub-employment". The existence of methods is only a tool to achieve the goal of intellectual exploration. As the clip I quoted at the beginning of the course, "Just as we don't think we should force the richness of historical life into some formulas. We also believe that only a clear concept can we level the path to a study that wants to establish a unique meaning of social cultural phenomena." Mrs. Marianne also commented on Veber this way: "Verbo did not care about systematically stating his thoughts because he did not intend to become a professional logician. Although his insights into methodology were highly valued, he did not judge the method itself, but used them as an indispensable tool when clearly perceiving the possibility of specific problems." Methods and theory were only for the sake of factual practices, which was almost a common view in the circle of Veber.
