The purpose of this course is to try to understand (1) how to narrate the daily life of the people at the bottom by reading two classic works on social suffering based on sophisticated ethnographic research; (2) how to transform seemingly detailed stories into localized ones. We need to use detailed field data to connect the life experiences of human communities around the world (including Taiwan) and re-examine relevant important theories in social sciences and cultural studies; (3) Most importantly, how can we rely on the will of the people at the bottom to survive? , in order to develop specific strategies to resist violence and rebuild social justice that keep pace with the times, and more importantly, the ability to imagine a better future.
