Operations Management in Healthcare
教育目標 Course Target
Healthcare is become the most changing and the most regulated industry today. New facilities are getting smaller, specialized, and dispersed. There is a growing shortage of skilled employees. Technology is advancing rapidly – CT, MRI, Robotics, EMR (electronic medical records). Information systems infrastructure is a growing focus, and revenue has been shrinking. All the above issues are making the management of healthcare service industry more complicated and challenging than before.
The following operations management issues in healthcare service industry are become more and more important and will be taught in this course:
•MANAGING DECENTRALIZED FACILITIES – women’s, urology, spinal, bariatric, minor medical, etc.
•RESOURCE TRACKING AND MANAGEMENT
–Economic and investment analysis on the assets and resources of healthcare system
–Forecasting of customers’ demand
–Consumable inventory location and amount
•IMPROVE OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY
–Flows: caregiver, information and material support, lab, physician, housekeeping, visitors
–Processes - routings
–Scheduling – resource utilization
–Wait Times – ED, at resources

課程概述 Course Description
This course is designed to assist students in developing a working knowledge of operations management concepts and technical methods so they can apply them in the healthcare service industry environments. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to get the whole picture of operations processes flow of the healthcare services industry and should be able to appropriate quantitative models for decision-making and analysis of the problems in healthcare services industry.
This course is designed to assist students in developing a working knowledge of operations management concepts and technical methods so they can apply them in the healthcare service industry environments. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to get the whole picture of operations processes flow of the healthcare services industry and should be able to appropriate quantitative models for decision-making and analysis of the problems in healthcare services industry.
