一、 使中文系研究生具備對西方文學批評理論與批評方法的基本瞭解。
二、 藉由對一手理論文本的閱讀，使學生觀察到不同理論之間其語境的差異與互通的脈絡。
三、 藉由議題的討論，說明理論文本在不同議題的應用方式，使學生得以將理論應用於其所感興趣的研究課題。1. Make Chinese graduate students have a basic understanding of Western literature criticism and criticism methods.
2. Through reading the first-hand theoretical text, students can observe the differences and interoperability of their language between different theories.
3. Through discussion on the topic, explain the way theoretical texts are applied to different topics, so that students can apply theoretical discussions to research topics of their interest.
西洋文學批評理論是解析文學、藝術、文化或社會的一種工具。文學的研究者可藉理論聚焦於特定視點、找到立論依據或建立論述架構，也可藉以跨領域連結不同藝術類別的文本，或將文本與產生該作品的文化情境脈絡化。雖然西洋文學批評理論產生的情境與生產出中國文學作品的文化脈絡不同，但華文學界卻能從中轉化出許多相應的本土化論述。因此，本課程擬透過對西方自古以來的重要文學批評理論的介紹、一手理論文本的研讀、論述應用分析與論述應用實作等方式，引領學生認識這些理論，共同探討這些理論應用在學生所從事之研究課題的可能。課程的第一階段將對西方文學批評理論流派、發展及主要理論文本做概論式介紹。在課程的第二階段，則以幾個重要議題為單元，共同環繞這些議題進行理論研讀，以檢視不同批評理論對該議題的闡釋方式，並討論華文學界如何在本土化的語境中關注這些議題及在相關研究應用理論的方式。所擬議題為暫定，在瞭解每位學生的研究興趣後再行調整。
Western literature criticism is a tool for analyzing literature, art, culture or society. Literature researchers can use theory to focus on specific points, find arguments or establish argumentative structures, or connect texts of different art types across domains, or integrate texts with the cultural context that produces the work. Although the situations generated by Western literary criticism are different from the cultural context of producing Chinese literary works, the Chinese literature community can transform many corresponding localization statements from it. Therefore, this course guides students to understand these theories through introduction of important literary criticism and treatment discussions in the West since ancient times, study of first-hand theoretical texts, analysis of argumentative application and practice of argumentative application, and jointly explore the possibility of these theories being applied to the research topics of students' work. The first stage of the course will provide an overview of the genres, developments and main theoretical texts of Western literature criticism. In the second stage of the course, several important topics are used as a unit to conduct theoretical study, to examine the way different criticisms discuss the topic, and to discuss how the Chinese literature community pays attention to these topics in a localized context and how the theory is applied in related research. The proposed topic is concrete, and then adjust it after understanding each student's research interests.
