他者(the other)概念是當代人文社會科學裏的大概念，法國猶太哲學家列維納斯(Emmanuel Levinas)是他者概念最重要的闡釋者之一，本課程嘗試介紹列氏思想，透過導讀他的經典著作，我們要對列氏的他者現象學(phenomenology of the other)作一個簡要但全面的刻畫。在課程規劃上，我們要以列氏的訪談錄作為綜觀其思想全局的主軸，並選擇他的兩部重要哲學作品《整體與無限》(Totality and Infinity)以及《存有之外》(Otherwise than Being)的部分段落、以及他的猶太法典詮釋的部分篇章進行導讀，期能帶領同學進入列氏的思想世界。

The concept of the other is a major concept in contemporary humanities and social sciences. The French Jewish philosopher Emmanuel Levinas is one of the most important interpreters of the concept of the other. This course attempts to introduce Levinas’s thoughts. Through an introduction to his classic works, we will give a brief but comprehensive description of Levinas’s phenomenology of the other. In terms of course planning, we will use Lieutenant General’s interviews as the main axis for an overall overview of his thoughts, and select some passages from his two important philosophical works, “Totality and Infinity” and “Otherwise than Being”, as well as some chapters of his Talmudic interpretation for introduction, hoping to lead students into Lieutenant General’s ideological world.
