他者(the other)概念是當代人文社會科學裏的大概念，法國猶太哲學家列維納斯(Emmanuel Levinas)是他者概念最重要的闡釋者之一，本課程嘗試介紹列氏思想，透過導讀他的經典著作，我們要對列氏的他者現象學(phenomenology of the other)作一個簡要但全面的刻畫。在課程規劃上，我們要以列氏的訪談錄作為綜觀其思想全局的主軸，並選擇他的兩部重要哲學作品《整體與無限》(Totality and Infinity)以及《存有之外》(Otherwise than Being)的部分段落、以及他的猶太法典詮釋的部分篇章進行導讀，期能帶領同學進入列氏的思想世界。
