Taught in English
Humanities: Christian Ethic
Course Target
It is no exaggeration to say that Western culture is the most important culture that constitutes contemporary world culture, and Christianity (including Orthodox Christianity, Catholicism, and Protestantism) is the main component of Western culture. Regardless of whether it is positive or negative, it is almost difficult to understand Western culture without knowing Christianity, and therefore it is impossible to fully understand contemporary culture and the many values it expresses (human rights, democracy, science, ecology, etc.). The core values of Christianity are reflected in its unique ethical outlook. The major ethical debates in the West today all use Christian ethics as the main reference point. Therefore, whether in terms of knowledge acquisition or life practice, we believe that understanding Christian ethics is of great value: on the one hand, we can understand the roots of Western ethics and the characteristics of Western culture through understanding Christian ethics; on the other hand, we can reflect on our own ethical attitudes and habits through Christian ethics. In short, as a great world religion, Christian ethics has a value that cannot be ignored. It is an important ethical resource worthy of reference for those who want to improve their life values and ethical practitioners. This course aims to explain Christian ethics. Christian ethics is rooted in the Bible, so Christian ethics can also be said to be "biblical ethics." This can be divided into two parts: one is those that are directly taught in the Bible, and the other is those that are not directly taught in the Bible but are implied or can be derived.
