Taught in English
Histrory of Chinese Music
Course Target
The history of Chinese music is Chinese culture centered on Huaxia, centered on the Han people, and at the same time inclusive and inclusive of neighboring ethnic groups. "Music" is its main carrier, and "time" is an important artery for its development. It is like a continuous historical scroll, linked to each other. The musical forms and styles of each dynasty inherit and influence each other. The music history course is divided into two forms. One is to lay out the period of time and narrate it. It describes the various developments of music styles and forms, with "historical perspective" as its focus. The other category uses music types as a classification to discuss the segmented evolution and historical context in the flow of time. "Form perspective" is the focus of the course. This semester, these two methodologies will be used to cross-check the form and style of Chinese music.
This course is an academic year course in the undergraduate department and is taught in the first and second semesters. The teaching scope of the first semester is Yanle Daqu from ancient times to the Sui and Tang Dynasties, and the teaching scope of the next semester is the operas from the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties to modern times. The first semester course focuses on clarifying the historical context of music from ancient times to the Sui and Tang Dynasties. It examines the diverse development of music from the relics of material culture and describes the changes and evolution of Chinese music from the Spring and Autumn Period to the Sui, Tang and Five Dynasties in a simple and in-depth manner. Finally, it is compiled into the "Yan Yue Daqu" with a compatible vocabulary, paving the way for the upcoming era of "opera".
The second semester course focuses on the four dynasties of "Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing". Music inherited many elements from the Sui, Tang and Five Dynasties folk songs, tunes and Yan music and dances. After the development of the Song Dynasty, the form shifted to drama combining multiple art forms, and became more and more mature and developed to the extreme, becoming the most important symbol of Chinese music. For example, from The folk song genre was composed of various Chinese dialects and tunes, combined with story lines and body movements, and gradually formed local operas.
