What is the relationship between knowledge and social practice? This is a topic of recent concern to sociology students. This course breaks the traditional binary opposition between "Are you stepping out of the ivory tower?" and knowledge/social practice, emphasizing that without the "test" and refinement of social life and social practice, theoretical thinking often falls into bookishness and nihilism. This course attempts to bring students into a world closer to ordinary people's lives, and to face the thoughts of people who are suffering in reality and social movement organizers, thereby reducing the gap between intellectuals and ordinary people's lives. Only by getting closer to the lives of ordinary people and the situation of social activists can we resist the dominance of mainstream ideologies at the individual and collective levels (for example, mainstream ideologies that are disgusted with the "shoe-losing" of social movements). Furthermore, we can basically evolve the sociological connotations we have learned and get out of the ivory tower.
This course will invite social movement workers related to this issue to talk about the problems they encountered during their actions and how they faced the state and technocrats in governing with a seemingly neutral and objective ideology, and this scientific However, the governance of digital may involve the involvement of many specific political stances, such as the digital myth of nuclear power, the issues behind RCA and Taiwan’s economic miracle, the China-Kuwait environmental impact assessment controversy, etc. At the same time, the course is based on Science, Technology and Society (STS) as the main theoretical basis, and cuts into Taiwan's social issues based on issues such as scientific controversy, scientific uncertainty, the politics of technological objects, and epidemiological controversies. It also uses social activists and RCA Based on the experience of victims, we understand how social activists intervene in such disputes and overturn the dominance of multinational corporations, states, and technocrats.
