本課程為社會系大四最後一門必修課,歷來不同的授課老師對課程主軸的界定相當多元。舉例來說,我就曾以「浪漫愛的系譜學考察」、「產業發展與全球化」、「從文學看歷史」等作為課程主題。本學期的主軸,則將以「個人的、社會的,與歷史的」之視野,以台灣的社會發展史作為主軸,並兵分兩路,一方面以台灣現代性中之政治民主轉型作為宏觀大歷史敘事;另一方面,則佐以個人生命敘事以家族史溯源作為小敘事。將兩者對張互襯、搓揉,相互鑲嵌,彼此形構。企能同時兼顧社會學向來關懷的幾個核心議題:「個人vs.社會」、「微觀vs.宏觀」、「能動性vs.結構」。
本課程將從政治社會學和歷史社會學的視野,系統性地介紹台灣的威權政體民主轉型的過程,以及族群及國族認同問題的歷史糾葛。在歷史的縱深上,我們將從1945-49年的二二八事件及後殖民經驗談起,經過1950-1960年代的白色恐怖與國民黨威權統治體制的確立,70年代的威權控制鬆動與反撲,然後有80年代民間社會的復甦和政治自由化,到90年代多元社會的初步形構,迄今邁入二十一世紀政黨輪替的台灣社會總體民主化過程。我們將深入探討民主轉型及國族主義的各種理論,作為我們理解當代台灣現代性的政治形構的線索。主要的學習目的,是將我們的分析視野拓展到政治轉型與整體社會的結構脈動之間的相應關係,以及探討一個社會朝向民主改革的歷史軌跡。本課程也將討論,在台灣邁向後威權之後,所面臨的民主深化及分歧的國族認同所面臨的艱鉅的歷史挑戰。
This course is the last compulsory course for senior students in the Department of Sociology. Historically, different teachers have defined the main axis of the course in quite diverse ways. For example, I have used "Genealogical Investigation of Romantic Love", "Industrial Development and Globalization", "Looking at History from Literature" as course themes. The main axis of this semester will be the "personal, social, and historical" perspective, with the history of Taiwan's social development as the main axis, and divided into two directions. On the one hand, the political and democratic transformation of Taiwan's modernity will be used as the macro historical narrative; on the other hand, personal life narratives and family history tracing will be used as small narratives. The two are set against each other, rubbed together, inlaid with each other, and formed with each other. Qineng takes into account several core issues that sociology has always cared about: "Individual vs. Society", "Micro vs. Macro", and "Agency vs. Structure".
This course will systematically introduce the democratic transformation process of Taiwan's authoritarian regime and the historical entanglements of ethnic and national identity issues from the perspectives of political sociology and historical sociology. In terms of historical depth, we will start from the February 28 Incident and post-colonial experience in 1945-49, through the white terror and the establishment of the Kuomintang's authoritarian rule in the 1950s and 1960s, the loosening and counterattack of authoritarian control in the 1970s, and then the recovery of civil society and political liberalization in the 1980s, to the initial formation of a pluralistic society in the 1990s, and now we have entered the overall democratization process of Taiwanese society with the rotation of political parties in the 21st century. We will delve into various theories of democratic transition and nationalism as clues to our understanding of the political formations of contemporary Taiwanese modernity. The main learning purpose is to expand our analytical horizons to the corresponding relationship between political transformation and the structural pulse of the overall society, and to explore the historical trajectory of a society towards democratic reform. This course will also discuss the difficult historical challenges faced by Taiwan's deepening democracy and divergent national identities as it moves towards post-authoritarianism.
