本課程主要的目的計有：
1. 藉瞭解經濟發展的理論，梳理出其中發展的關鍵
2. 印證理論和實務之間的關連
3. 學習閱讀原文資料

The main purposes of this course are:
1. Understand the theory of economic development and sort out the key to development.
2. Demonstrate the connection between theory and practice
3. Learn to read original materials

政治學的介入企圖為經濟發展的研究困境解套，因為真正制定政策、執行政策和分配資源的關鍵是政府。缺乏關於政府的討論，經濟發展的研究只能找出相關的條件卻不能發展出相關的發展模式。即使如此，政治經濟學家所發展出的發展模式仍有許多可議之處，例如，民主和效率之間的矛盾，政治改革和經濟改革順序的問題等。

The intervention of political science attempts to solve the research dilemma of economic development, because the key to formulating policies, implementing policies and allocating resources is the government. In the absence of discussions about government, research on economic development can only identify relevant conditions but cannot develop relevant development models. Even so, the development model developed by political economists still has many issues to discuss, such as the contradiction between democracy and efficiency, the issue of the sequence of political reform and economic reform, etc.
