本課程目標主要是讓學生思考文學的性質與功能，進一步明暸形式、內容、目的、技巧的相關性，以及風格和流派。除了對文學理論、批評與文學史的提點說明外，著重於文本的詮釋解析，在小說、散文、詩和劇本等不同文類中，揀取中外名篇擇要賞析，以期能具體感知文本的豐富與趣味。課堂並安排分組報告與討論，增進學生表達能力，作業則是檢驗學生的吸收力及創造力。

The goal of this course is to enable students to think about the nature and function of literature, and to further understand the correlation between form, content, purpose, technique, as well as style and genre. In addition to mentioning and explaining literary theory, criticism, and literary history, it also focuses on the interpretation and analysis of texts. From different genres such as novels, essays, poems, and scripts, it selects and analyzes famous Chinese and foreign works in order to gain a concrete appreciation of the richness and interest of the text. The class also arranges group reports and discussions to enhance students' expression ability, while homework tests students' absorption and creativity.
